How I Am Detoxing

It is not a surprise that I am posting a detox post in January as I absolutely love a fresh start. I am one of those people who love a Monday or a start of the month and considering it is not only the new year but a new decade, it is time to detox in my day to day life as well as digitally.

#1 Unfollow accounts that don’t make you feel great about yourself
Considering I am a blogger I spend a lot of time interacting with others online, especially on Instagram. Instagram is hands down my favourite social media platform, but towards the end of the year, I noticed myself feeling so awful about myself and comparing myself with some of the people I am following. I have proudly gone through the ‘following’ section and unfollowed a handful of accounts that make me feel insecure, unsuccessful and not good looking enough to fit in.

#2 Spend more time outdoors
Since moving to a different city I have found myself wanting to be outdoors more, which is a bit of shocker seen as I am such a homebody. I live right next to a canal so as you can imagine, our surroundings are so beautiful and idyllic. After a Primark shopping spree, I bought the cutest gym outfit and have started taking up running and it has helped my mental health so much. There is something so rewarding about waking up at the crack of dawn and going on a run whilst everyone else is sleeping.

#3 Have a declutter
January is the perfect time to have a clear-out and it is so satisfying to condense your wardrobe and donate items that are no longer loved to a new home. I moved in with Harry a few months back and prior to that, I lived with my mum in one house and my dad in another, so as you can imagine, trying to fit two houses worth of things into a two-bed flat is quite challenging. My top tips for decluttering are: create piles of charity, keep and throw away, declutter room by room, try and work out when you last used the item – if it’s over 5 months, get rid of it!

#4 Reduce screen time
One of my closest friends this Christmas gifted me a Waterstones voucher with the message that I need to start reading more and it was definitely a kick up the ass that I needed as I have neglected all of my old hobbies. One of my worst habits is always having my phone next to me no matter what I am doing, I always find myself aimlessly scrolling down every social media platform and end up procrastinating. This year I really want to spend less time on my phone and take up new hobbies, whether it is yoga, DIY or reading.

#5 Make healthier food choices
Along with trying to exercise more, I have also been making healthier food choices. During December I consumed way too much cheese, chocolate and beer and I found myself becoming so lethargic and sluggish. Adding more fruit and veggies to my diet has improved my energy levels so much and I have ended up being way more productive because of it.

#6 Focus on sleep
A couple posts ago I mentioned that I am on new anti-depressants and like most new medication, there are side effects. For the first few weeks of taking them, my sleeping pattern was horrendous, I was either sleeping for 13 hours straight or having the most restless and nightmare filled sleep. So I have decided that a change is needed and have been trying to fix my sleeping pattern so I am a little less grouchy in the morning and not as coffee dependent haha! As I said above I am always on my phone and using it before sleep delays your body clock and reduces melatonin, making falling asleep so hard. I have swapped my late-night social media scroll with a book and having some calm me time has helped massively. For Christmas, I received such an amazing pressie from my dad and it is the Feather & Down Ultimate Sleep Set that contains the classic lavender and chamomile pillow spray, body lotion, soap bar and shower cream. I have ranted and raved all about how amazing their pillow spray is and combining that with the cream and lotion is just heavenly!

Thank you so much for reading, I hope you all enjoyed! Are you detoxing this month?

Until next time,

Love this so much! I think it’s such a great quality to be able to recognise the bad habits you’d like to get rid of and there improve on them. Reading is one of my favourite things to do, apart from the fact it’s so enjoyable, it also passes so much time and makes me feel really productive. Receiving Waterstones gift vouchers is like…one of my favourite things hahaha. Sad I know !! I also made sure to start reading before bed instead of being on my phone and it’s improved my sleep schedule 100% – I don’t find it hard to get up in the mornings and I’m not tired anymore !! Having a routine is so great .xxx

I think it is so cool that you live next to a canal! We looked at a flat to rent that we beside a river which looked absolutely beautiful but alas the flat was too small and cramped so we ended up looking elsewhere. Would have been a gorgeous place to live though!
I used to be such a big bookworm but now I hardly ever read so I am definitely trying to get more into reading books in 2020. You will have to tell me what books you love so I can check them out too.
I used to take Mirtazapine and omgosh I have never slept so much in my life! I felt like even when I was awake, I was sleeping. Thankfully I have come off it now but definitely cannot recommend shopping around for antidepressants and finding the work that not only improves your mood but has side effects that you can live with. xx

Thank you so much for reading honey. Living by the canal really has its pros, the view is so gorgeous and has amazing photo opportunities!! I miss reading so much but I always put it at the bottom of my priority list, we so need to make 2020 of reading! I am so glad that you are feeling much better, its awful how much anti depressants can affect your sleeping patterns and energy! Girl, do I get the issues with starting new antidepressant medication. It can be hard and the side effects are no joke. It’s so great that your paying attention and making a point to detox and take care of yourself. I’m always trying to focus on getting through my night time routine, take care of myself before bed and go to sleep early so I can feel rested the next day. Great post 😊
