I can’t believe it has been a month since my life completely changed and Poppy entered the world. Becoming a family of three is the best thing that has happened to me, in fact it is hard to remember what life was like before she was here or before I was pregnant! Since my last post she is sleeping so much better, for the first two weeks me and Harry were doing shifts in the evening where I slept from 9pm-3am and then he slept 3am-9am so we were at least getting 6 hours of sleep as Poppy was up every hour, making it impossible for us to get some proper sleep. Now we are able to all go to bed together with only 2 feeds in the night, which is a blessing considering she is only four weeks old! Every day we are discovering a new facial expression from her, she is starting to smile a little (from wind of course haha), and has very many frowns and surprised faces, I could just spend all day watching her – I will post lots of photos at the end of this post. I never knew feeling love this strong was possible until she was here, motherhood truly is a beautiful thing.
It goes without saying that my morning routine is polar opposite to what it used to be so I thought for todays post I would share what I get up to whilst having a newborn. The UK is still in lockdown, making days out and socialising with friends and family off the cards. I just hope it isn’t too long until Poppy can meet her family and attend baby classes. Right, rambly intro over and onto my morning routine – I hope you enjoy!
02:00am – Me and Harry usually sleep by 11pm and then at 2am we are greeted with a smelly nappy and cries for more milk. Poppy is the only person who can make me happy by waking me up at 2am haha.
04:30am – Yep you guessed it, another nappy change and bottle! Usually Poppy is good as gold and settles so quickly after a feed, but this week we have had one grizzly and needy baby as she is entering her first developmental leap and we have had to spend up to an hour walking around the flat to try and send her back to sleep.
07:30am – This is my favourite time of the day. After a nappy change and bottle we get all snuggled in bed for cuddles. Although I spend all day long with her, our morning cuddles feels like proper quality time together where there are no distractions. I saw a poem pop up on Facebook the other day all about making the most of the time with your newborn as it is so easy to think ‘oh I will just finish that ironing whilst she is asleep’ rather than snuggling down next to her. Cherishing the time I have with her is something I won’t take for granted.
09:00am – A couple of coffees and lots of cuddles later we are both up out of bed and it is time to get ready for the day. And by get ready, I mean scoff some custard creams, have a shower and shove my hair up. I have basically said goodbye to any form of skincare or makeup routine and wearing nice clothes is a distant memory.
09:30am – Bath time is becoming one of Poppy’s favourite things, when we first bathed her she was so unsure bless her, but now she is loving it so much. It won’t be long now until she is able to use bubble bath and baby moisturiser – do any other mums worry about their baby’s losing their newborn smell once you start using products or is it just me?
10:30am – Time for another bottle and then she goes down for a nap! This is the time where I try and do a bit of tidying: make the bed, wash and sterilise all the bottles from the night feeds and replenish the nappies on her changing table. Once the house is a bit more in order I finally get around to replying to all those who I have left on read for an embarrassing amount of time.
1:00pm – As she wakes it brings us to the afternoon and I will be doing a different post sharing my afternoon routine which usually involves a family walk, time in her baby gym and you guessed it.. lots more naps, nappy changes and milk!
Thank you all for reading, I hope you enjoyed our morning routine! I was going to apologise for those who aren’t into reading all the mummy content but frankly I am finding it impossible to talk about anything but my little girl – she really is such an adorable bundle of joy. Enjoy the baby picture spam below!
Until next time.
Sounds like a great morning.. So glad she is getting into a routine ☺️🥰

She is absolutely adorable – I am so jealous (although maybe not of the wake-up times!). I think it is so sensible that you did shifts of 6 hours overnight initially so that each of you were able to get at least 6 hours of sleep otherwise you would have been both so drained! Is Harry working from home, still going into the office or on paternity leave? xx

Thank you for reading sweet, I have to say it was so strange us not going to bed together at the same time but saved us from being frazzled and exhausted! Luckily (for us) Harry is on furlough so is able to spend so much time with Poppy. Thanks once again for reading 🙂 xx

I honestly can’t get over how cute she is! ❤️ I’m sending you lots of support, and I just want to let you know that you’re doing so well. It must be really difficult to be unable to visit family and friends when you’ve got a newborn xx
